Scanning Tips

8 Rules to Scan By

What’s the best transducer to use? Should I focus above or below the area I am scanning? What can I use to fine tune the overall brightness of an image?

Answers to these and other questions in this issue’s Scanning Tip section

Rule # 1: Use the best Transducer designed for study being performed.
                    • Ob/Gyn = Curvilinear/EV probe

Rule # 2: Use the highest Frequency transducer that allows adequate penetration.
Rule # 3: Use the correct manufacturer's Preset (if available) on the   ultrasound system.
Rule # 4: In B-Mode, use Approach that places the sound beam 90 degrees (perpendicular) to area of interest.
Rule # 5: Use shallowest Depth that still allows you to view the area of interest.
Rule # 6: Focus at or below the area of interest.
Rule # 7: Set the TGC for uniform image throughout FOV.
Rule # 8: Fine tune overall image brightness using Overall Gain.
